How to Get a Facebook Reel Transcript (Even With No Captions)
TL;DR: Facebook has no "Show transcript" button for Reels, and most Reels have no captions. You watched a Reel with a recipe, a quote or a tip you want to keep, and there's no way to copy what was said. Facebook shows auto-generated captions on some videos, but you can't select or export them, and many Reels have none at all.
Why Facebook Reels Have No Transcript
Facebook only generates captions for some videos, only shows them while the video plays, and never offers them as text. YouTube has a "Show transcript" panel; Facebook has nothing like it. So getting a Facebook video to text means one of two things:
- Reading existing captions from the video file, when the uploader or Facebook added them. Fast and exact, but most Reels don't have any.
- Transcribing the audio with a speech-to-text model. Works on any video with speech, captions or not.

How to Get the Transcript of a Facebook Reel
- Copy the link. On the Reel, tap Share, then Copy link. Links like

Most Reels are under 3 minutes, so the free plan transcribes them in full. For a long Live replay without captions, you get the transcript of its opening minutes.
The video must be public: Reels from private groups and friends-only posts can't be fetched. Transcription works in most languages, and you can have the summary written in a different one.
